The students and I spent this week discussing natural resources and how people around the world use these natural resources. The students figured out that natural resources are used for building homes and other structures, are used for eating, can help protect people/animals and can also be saved and reused. We spent the week reading several different versions of The Three Little Pigs and compared/contrasted them. Groups of students then made models of the pigs' houses out of natural resources (grass, wood sticks, and crushed up brick/sand). Below are the student's creations. They did a great job working as teams to complete the project!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I loved seeing the students dressed in green today! In celebration of this holiday, the students and I read both fiction and non-fiction books about St. Patrick's Day. The students also wrote a sequencing story telling what they would do if they found a pot of gold. Students used sequencing words such as first, second, then and finally as they wrote. We also enjoyed Lucky Charms for a tasty snack!
Today was National, Read Across America Day. This is the day that we celebrate reading as well as Dr. Seuss' birthday. The students and I read a biography on Dr. Seuss and discussed some of the major events in his life. The students were surprised to learn that he was an illustrator as well as a writer, wrote and published books for over a span of 53 years and has a memorial set up in his honor in Massachusetts. Below are videos I took of the kids reading with partners and to themselves as part of our Read Across America Day!
