After reading several versions of The Three Little Pigs, the students worked in groups to create models of the pigs' homes using natural resources. Students used straw, popsicle sticks, and crushed up rocks to make the homes. They had to work cooperatively together to complete the art project. The students then had to write about what natural resource they would build their house out of and explain why. The students were very creative in their answers! Check out pictures of their houses below.

Over the last few weeks, we have begun discussing natural resources with our students. The students have quickly discovered that anything made from the Earth is a natural resource. The students have been learning both the English and French terms for these natural resources and can describe them in both languages. One question that came up this week during our discussions was : Do rocks sink or float? We had a discussion with the students about what types of things sink/float. We decided to test this idea with rocks too. We put a granite rock and pumice into a container of water and the heavier of the two or the granite did sink, while the pumice did float. The students were very surprised and we also talked about why pumice might float while the other rock sank. Check out some photos below of the students with the rocks and looking at the results.
