Today the students got the chance to compare gummy worms and Earthworms. After talking about how worms and other insects are helpful to plants the students got the chance to observe and watch how earthworms begin to make their tunnels in the soil. Using the earthworms the students practiced their math skills by measuring how long they were with paperclips and also reviewed using adjectives as they had to describe them. Students also had to determine whether or not the earthworms or gummy worms were living or non-living and give a reason why. We put the earthworms in soil in mason jars and covered them with black construction paper to make it dark for the worms. We will check on them next week to see if the worms have dug tunnels and aerated the soil. Check out the pictures below of the students with the earthworms.
