We had another great week! The students and I started talking about families and we made a chart of the similarities and differences between families. We also talked about what our families liked to do. Be sure to check out you child's page to see a short video clip where he/she describes what your family likes to do. Looking forward to next week when we make family trees and family responsibility houses.

We had a great first week of school! The kids did really well when we were explaining transitions and the typical schedule of their day. By Friday, the students did great hanging their book bags in the hallway, unpacking their folders, and following the routines for dismissal. We are still working on transitioning from morning class to afternoon class as it gets a little congested in the hallway. One of the activities we did the first week was make "Class Tree" pictures using their thumbprints. Below I have posted the blue and green classes pictures. I thought they turned out great and couldn't wait to hang them on my wall!
I had the opportunity to visit Salt Lake City this summer for Dual Language Immersion Training. I learned so much during this trip and it only prepared me more for this upcoming school year. While on the trip I was pleased to learn some surprising facts about the benefits of a dual language immersion program. Dual language immersion programs foster a deeper environment of cross-cultural understanding. These programs also have cognitive benefits as well: better performance on executive functioning tasks and maintaining better cognitive function with age. Students in these programs also have stronger problem solving skills, vocabularies and word analysis skills. Needless to say it was a great and eye opening trip and I can't wait for this school year to begin! |
AuthorMy name is Erin Webb and I am going into my fourteenth year teaching. I taught kindergarten in Summerville, SC for one year before moving to Rock Hill after getting married. Since being in Rock Hill, I have been teaching first grade at Rosewood Elementary International School. This will be my sixth year teaching using the Dual Language Model. I will be team teaching with Monsieur Joseph McFadden. I am very excited about what the coming year has to offer! Archives
