Over the next few weeks, the students and I will be exploring families and cultures from around the world. We started off discussing the similarities and differences between our own families in the United States. We will then spend the next three weeks discussing families and cultures from Mexico, China, and France. We will touch on typical foods, jobs, modes of transportation, clothing, homes, languages spoken and even what activities families do together or for fun. Each week, Madame Tyson and I will try to bring in a special snack or treat to represent each country. This week the students enjoyed some tortilla chips and salsa while we discussed family cultures in Mexico. The students also enjoyed the opportunity to practice eating with chopsticks when we talked about Chinese families and cultures. The students were very interested in learning to eat with the chopsticks and got the chance to practice eating rice and even trying to eat their lunch with them!
