In connection to our new unit in writing, the students and I enjoyed making s'mores this week. We discussed earlier what the purpose of "How To" books are and how they are written in a way that will teach someone how to do something or make something. As a beginning activity to this unit, we made s'mores and then wrote the steps of how to make a s'more down as a class. Students made their own s'mores and then completed their own How To Make A S'more book and art craft. We also tied in our inquiries about the sun and talked about how the heat from the sun could also be used to melt the chocolate when making a s'more. The students writing and art work will be displayed at the First Grade Learning Celebration. Please enjoy the pictures below.
